Phil has joined Automotive and Technical Personnel in our dedicated Print & Graphics division following a long career in the printing industry.
His print industry experience spans over 30 years in the New Zealand print Graphics Industry. Dedicating the majority of his working life to the printing industry in a variety of roles. Firstly, becoming a fully qualified "Flexographic Printer" serving his trade apprenticeship with Alex Harvey Industries (A.H.I.), a large and well-respected flexible packaging company in New Zealand.
After completing his apprenticeship Phil set off on an extended "Big
OE".
he returned to New Zealand and joined the Whitcoulls Flexible Packaging
Company graduating to a Shift Supervisors role, this team was responsible
for producing some of the most innovative and high quality Flexo
work being produced anyway in the world at this time. During his
8 years with this company he also took time away from machinery
to learn estimating, production planning, stock control and was
introduced to the design and graphics side of plate making.
A sole-charge position with Minigrip followed which involved a "conception to completion" role, encompassing everything to do with the day-to-day production of flexible packaging and extrusion.
A change of city saw a move to Mt Maunganui and spend 2 years at the famous Oceanside Hotel as a Bar Manager / Cocktail Barman. This interlude from the industry was an enjoyable break from the crowds of Auckland.
Wanting to widen his printing industry experience Phil joined Morrisons Printing Inks (M.P.I.) as a Technical Representative. This role involved daily contact with all levels of packaging and liaison with all levels of people for 12 years thus, planting the seed for the future.
As National Technical Sales Manager for Nova Inks Phil set-up the "Flexographic Ink" division from scratch and developed the business in solvent and water-borne inks.
After 5 years, he acquired this Flexo division from Nova and formed his own Flexo & Gravure water-bourne ink manufacturing business Aqa-Inx Ltd. This business serviced the industry in New Zealand and Australia, assisting large corporates such as Carter Holt Harvey, Visyboard and McDonalds to enhance their products with food-safe water-bourne ink systems and coatings.
Phil has a sound working knowledge of all aspects of the printing industry after 35+ years involvement.
On a personal level, Phil has been an active member of the Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club for 30+ years with a strong involvement and love of Snooker, winning many trophies over the years. He has an interest in Rugby, Golf and Swimming and also has a passion for 1940's and 1950's American classic automobiles and custom cars.
